OpenAMQ implements AMQP/0.9.1

(December 18, 2008) iMatix has released a new version of OpenAMQ that includes support for AMQP/0.9.1. This is a significant step in giving OpenAMQ users interoperability with other AMQP products like RabbitMQ.

OpenAMQ/1.3c3 now supports AMQP/0.9.1. This new protocol version offers several advantages to users, most importantly the promise of interoperability. Up to now, different vendors implemented different versions of AMQP, leading to confusion and inability to use a client library from one vendor with the server from another. As all AMQP vendors move to implement AMQP/0.9.1, this confusion will disappear. This is a major milestone to getting AMQP/1.0 ready in 2009.

The older OpenAMQ branch (1.2) does not yet support AMQP/0.9.1 but iMatix says, "we'll add this if anyone asks for it." iMatix encourages users to move to OpenAMQ/1.3 because it is more stable and much faster thanks to its implementation of Direct Mode, an AMQP extension protocol that allows much faster message transfer between clients and servers.
